so Ashlee Simpson was the musical guest tonight....time for her second song....oddly enough, she starts singing before the band starts playing....even before lifting the microphone to her mouth, or moving her lips at all! she then proceeds to walk offstage, as the band starts playing, aaaaand cut to commercial....and I laughed....

hahaha i was just watching this and i wanted to go online to see if anyone else saw it. that was so awesome. stupid ashlee simpson.

yeah, that was definitely hilarious...I had a feeling she was lip synching before because at like the end of the song, she smiled before the song was completely over so as she was smiling, you could still hear the last like milisecond of the song. It was really subtle but I caught it! And what was even funnier was that she walked off the stage and just left her band there, not knowing what to do!

And it'll never be aired again by SNL.

Mr. Michaels frequently has embarrasing SNL moments removed from the program and replaced with dress rehearsal takes for the reruns and syndication.

For instance, Sinead ripping up a picture of the pope has never aired again as an official episode of SNL.

Oh, that was funny! I almost shat myself. At the end of the show, you know where all the cast goes onstage for 30 seconds to wave and shake each others hands, Ashlee Simpson said that she was sorry and her band was playing the wrong song. What BS, she blames the backup band.

That was hugely embarrassing.

The first song was the hit (Pieces of Me), and that seemed fine to me.

But I guess the band was playing to a backing tape.

When the show came back from a commercial to start the second song of the night, a backing tape started to play (but it was the SAME SONG as the first one). The band is standing there, apparently not knowing what to do, and then they started to play along to the tape, and Ashlee walked offstage. And then they quickly cut to a commercial.

All those major label people are doctored to greater or lesser degrees. Even when singing “live”. Anthony Kledis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers has some guy that tours with the band to “fix” his crappy vocals (FX that “harmonize” his voice to the music because he’s often so flat). The technology is so good now, it’s like you can’t tell (much less define) what's “real” and what’s not anymore. So I guess what the mixers do is have a pre-recorded vocal track and the live vocal track and they can mix them depending on how the performance is going, etc. So you can laugh about Ashlee on SNL and that’s fine, but maybe take a broader look at all these superstars (Madonna & Brittney come to mind as well as the Chili Peppers). How can you dance around like crazy and be expected to be singing reasonably well at the same time? There’s no way. Well, maybe James Brown could do it...

Well, Ashlee was not dancing around for this performance...well, unless you count her little square dancing number she busted out when they started to play the wrong song. And yes, I can laugh about Ashlee on SNL....hahahahahahahaha
